There’s something about a wood-fired sauna that an electric heater can’t quite replicate. The slow build of heat as the stones glow. The faint scent of pine smoke. The crackle of the firebox. For many of our customers, this is what a “real” sauna means — the way it has been done in Finland for thousands of years.
A wood-fired sauna uses a traditional log-burning stove to heat a chamber of stones. Water ladled onto the stones produces löyly — the steam burst that defines a Finnish sauna experience. The heat is dense, immersive, and arguably has a quality electric simply cannot match.
Is a wood-fired sauna right for you?
Wood-fired saunas suit people who have access to firewood, don’t mind tending a fire, and value ritual over convenience. They’re ideal for rural properties, off-grid locations, and anyone without easy access to a 230V power supply.

Our wood-fired range
Our wood-fired range is currently transitioning. The new Anu Wood Sauna — featuring our signature split-level design with a wood-burning stove — is arriving in July.
For customers who want the full hot-and-cold experience, we offer the Anu Wood paired with our Tomas Ice Bath as a contrast therapy bundle.
Every cabin is built from 38mm thermally modified Nordic pine — the same timber used in Finnish saunas for generations, treated to resist moisture and warping in New Zealand’s climate.
The health case for regular sauna use
The benefits of consistent sauna bathing are well documented. The KIHD study (Laukkanen et al., 2017) tracked over 2,300 Finnish men for two decades and found that those who used a sauna 4 to 7 times per week showed approximately 66% lower rates of dementia compared to once-a-week users. The cardiovascular evidence is equally striking.

Delivery and viewing
All Pure Sweat saunas are delivered nationwide via Move Freight. Door-to-door is standard; depot pickup is available where access is difficult. Viewing is by appointment at our Lynmore showroom in Rotorua — come and sit in one running before you decide.
